“Doula” (pronounced “doola”) is a Greek word meaning “woman servant or caregiver”.
In today’s terms, a doula is an experienced woman who offers emotional and practical support to a woman, couples and families before, during and after childbirth.
My name is Lisa. I am a mother of 3 wonderful children; Emily, Hebe and Sidney and I am an experienced recognised birth doula and BabyCalm™ Teacher caring for families in Yorkshire, Humberside, Manchester & the surrounding areas.
I am passionate about supporting women, their partners and family members at one of the most exciting yet vulnerable times in their lives. I will help you to find information to enable you to make informed choices which are right for you as an individual and for your family as a whole. I will support you emotional, practically and spiritually. I want to help you to look forward to your birth and labour, relishing the childbearing year from start to finish.
In recent years, birth has moved to be a highly medicalised event. We are bombarded with negative images of childbirth in the media, depicting an ordeal to be endured rather than a transformational rite of passage to embrace and enjoy. We seem to have lost sight of the miraculous simplicity of birth.
Birth is normal, natural and awesome – an Everyday Miracle.
In these pages you will find more information on me and the services I have to offer and by following me on Facebook or Twitter you can read interesting and up to date articles on pregnancy, birth and beyond.
